Human Society and it's Environment (HISE) Faculty caters for students of all abilities, including those who intend to study at university as well as for a wide range of interests.
Each year we offer the following courses:
Aboriginal Studies covers both modern and historical issues concerning Aboriginal people and the wider community. These are treated from an Aboriginal perspective and include research on a project of personal choice.
Ancient History provides students with opportunities to develop and apply their understanding of methods and issues involved in the investigation of the ancient past. Through archaeological and written sources, students study of a range of features, people, places, events and developments of the ancient world.
Business Studies prepares students for either a career in business, or equally, for entry to a University business course. This is typically our most popular course and offers students both theoretical knowledge of the functioning of a business as well as practical advice about commercial life.
Geography is a traditional Social Sciences subject but one with a modern curriculum. It looks at contemporary issues including demographics, ecology and climate science. Geography students will expect to conduct fieldwork and as well as practical work with maps, statistics and data.
Legal Studies gives an overview of the workings of not only our Common and Legislative system of law but also relates it to current affairs and government. This is a course that may be used to prepare students for post-school study of the law as well as for careers in the police force. Many students describe Legal Studies as their most interesting subject and it can be undertaken with a career or further study in mind or simply as a subject based on developing general knowledge, written expression or skills in debate and opinion making.
Modern History provides students with opportunities to develop and apply their understanding of methods and issues involved in the investigation of modern history. Through various sources, students study a range of people, ideas, movements, events and developments that have shaped the modern world.
Society and Culture offers experience across a range of issues involving a variety of contrasting social and cultural groups. Information gathering, research and reporting form an important part of Society and Culture and give students the freedom to investigate issues that interest them.
Studies of Religion II contrasts religious beliefs without making judgement about any of them. It seeks to inform the student about the richness of religious thought and belief and the origins of some of the world's great religions.
