This requires you to study Category A courses including - English (Compulsory) and at least 4 other Board Developed Courses (those that have an HSC Exam at the end) so that the University Admissions Centre (UAC) can use your school-based assessment and HSC Exam results to do their calculations.
Most courses are called Category A. These courses are accepted by the Universities as suitable for students who want to go on to tertiary studies.
Some courses are called Category B and include the VET (Vocational Education and Training courses eg. Construction, Hospitality, Retail, Primary Industries). The Universities will let students include ONE Category B course in the calculation of the ATAR.
Students should note that most VET courses have an optional HSC Exam, so you need to think carefully about which courses you choose.
Teachers will assist students with this at information sessions and the Interview Day.
